I had a meeting with Dennis Pillon about emergency planning procedures on March 18 at 9 am. Dennis gave me information about severe weather safety, medical emergency planning, Chemical emergiences, building diagrams and floor plans, bomb threat planning guide, and violent persons. Cathy,
I am always fit, fine, fresh and alive. How are you? You are welcome to piggyback on the utility insert. We would like to work with you to promote emergency preparedness with children. When would be a good time to meet you @ the library! Let's meet and plan (cook:)something together @ the library community.

Hello, Manisha. How are you?
I'm back early from my conference, and I understand from Denis that you want to promote emergency preparedness with children? It's my goal to increase this awareness as well, with children and adults alike, so let's work on something together.
As well, National Emergency Preparedness Week is May 3 - 9 this year, and I was hoping to send an insert with the next utility bill mailing, but understand you have this booked already. Nancy from City Hall suggested that you may be willing to let me piggyback on to your insert if it worked for you. Give me a call and we can discuss.
Thanks,
Cathy Werbowetsky

Practical portion of fire extinguisher training
Hi Manisha,
As discussed, you can provide me with dates that will work for your staff in reqards to the practical portion of fire extinguisher training. The practical portion will be conducted at the training ground located at 2400 Paterson Drive (Near the Patersonn Grain Elevator). I suggest we wait until the weather warms up before we conduct the training.
We will not charge for the training but you will be responsible for the cost of leasing the fire extinguishers from Fire and Safety Center. Corey can provide you with a price quote if you provide him with participant numbers.
Normally we deliver the theory and practical together. Therefore, I recommend a brief review of the theory prior to conducting the practical. Please keep a list of the people who have attended the theory portion today. We will not deliver practical training to anyone who has not participated in the theory.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

I found it very interesting in reguards to there being different types of fire extinguishers. I would like to have a practice session with the actual fire extinguishers. -Lorraine
I didn't know that there were fire extinguishers for certain types of fires. It was very informative and i enjoyed it. -Jennifer
I learned that some fire extinguishers have water or powder inside. And if you don't hold the nozzle properly it will burn your hand. -Jacie
I learned that some of the covers of the casings are made of plastic or glass. -Courtney
I learnt a lot from the fire safety presentation. It was good. -Ariel

Fire safety training
As a manager of the library and the given the history of fires at this facility in Summer 2008 and January 2009; I think the training was needed at our branch and all the staff benefited by the hands-on training and presentation about the fire extinguisher and a tour of the exit points and furnance rooms on the facility. We are know keeping the emergency and furnance room keys seperate from the ususal bunch of keys. Hilary, Linda, Margaret and Ching attended the 60 minute training on Feb 23, 9-10 am. The training was conducted by Jerry and his team (Greg, Ryan and Pete) from the Swift Current Fire Department.

The fire training session was very helpful in reviewing where all the fire extinguishers are stored and their applications as to the sort of fire we might experience. Emergency procedures were covered in the presentation as well as practical hands-on practice with the alarm system. It was a good safety session for me.
Margaret Lottridge
It was good to learn how to tell if your fire extinguisher will work for the type of fire you have. We learned how there are three parts that make a fire: fuel, heat, and oxygen. Without one of these the fire will die. Also we learned PASS: how to use the fire extinguisher (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep).
